Angela Vali, PhD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Angela Vali is a licensed clinical psychologist trained within the generalist model.  She has a special interest in multicultural counseling, especially issues related to cultural adaptation, culture shock, isolation and growing up as a part of a third culture.  Dr. Vali appreciates that cultural assimilation occurs at a different pace for every member of the family, and therefore effective communication between family members helps decrease conflicts associated with this.  Dr. Vali  has also worked for several years in an inpatient setting for survivors of traumatic brain injury where she gained experience in administering  neuropsychological and psychological assessments.  She maintains an interest in working with families and survivors as they cope with the residual effects of a debilitating injury.

Dr. Vali practices from a multicultural, cognitive, relational perspective.  She believes that the genuine 'use of self' by the therapist is a key component of successful therapy, as is the ongoing evaluation of the relationship between client and therapist.

Education

Dr. Vali obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Memphis, M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas, and her B.A. in Sociology from the Australian National University.  She is a licensed clinical psychologist.
